At Holy Nativity, caring for our community is not just a value we talk about. It’s something we practice. Our faith calls us to show up where our neighbors are hurting, to stand with those facing injustice, and to work alongside others for the common good.
We partner with ISAIAH, a coalition of Minnesota faith communities committed to building a more just, equitable, and compassionate state. Through this partnership, our pastors and members join with clergy and community leaders to support dignity, safety, and opportunity for all.
Why We Show Up
Our public witness grows out of our understanding of Jesus’ ministry: showing up with people who are vulnerable, overlooked, or pushed to the margins.
For us, this means:
- Standing with neighbors facing harm or uncertainty
- Supporting community institutions that serve those most in need
- Joining with others to advocate for systems that promote dignity and fairness
- Practicing non‑violent, prayerful presence in public spaces
This work is not about partisanship. It’s about people.
Recent Actions
Clergy Witness at MSP Airport (February 2026)
Our pastors joined clergy from across Minnesota in a peaceful demonstration at the Minneapolis–St. Paul Airport, organized through ISAIAH. The gathering called attention to the treatment of immigrant families. Several clergy, including ours, were arrested as part of a planned act of civil disobedience rooted in non‑violent faith tradition.
Outdoor Prayer Vigil for Our Communities (February 2026)
In February, members of Holy Nativity joined ISAIAH for an outdoor prayer vigil held in the cold as an act of solidarity and community care. Participants lit candles outside their homes and churches to pray for our neighborhoods and for all who have been harmed by ICE — including those who have died in custody and those whose families and communities continue to experience fear, separation, and instability. The vigil offered a quiet moment of collective grief, hope, and commitment to dignity and compassion for every person.
Palm Sunday March to the Capitol (March 2026)
On Palm Sunday, our congregation joined ISAIAH and other Minnesota churches for a 2:00pm march to the Capitol. The day began with the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a humble donkey, modeling a way of leadership grounded in compassion, justice, and care for the vulnerable. The march was a public expression of those same values, bringing together people of faith to lift up dignity, community well‑being, and the call to love our neighbors in tangible ways.
Prayer Vigil for Hennepin County Medical Center (April 2026)
Our senior pastor and some of our members participated in a 24‑hour prayer vigil supporting HCMC as the hospital faces potential closure. The vigil highlighted the essential role HCMC plays for low‑income and uninsured neighbors, and affirmed the importance of accessible healthcare in our community.
Ongoing Partnership With ISAIAH
Through ISAIAH, we join with other congregations to support efforts related to:
- Housing stability
- Healthcare access
- Racial equity
- Economic justice
- Community safety and well‑being
This partnership helps us act not as a lone congregation, but as part of a larger movement working for a thriving Minnesota.
What This Means for Our Congregation
Our public witness is one expression of our faith. It reflects our commitment to:
- Compassion
- Courage
- Community care
- Showing up when it matters
Some participate through presence. Some through prayer. Some through conversation and learning. All of it matters.
