Holy Nativity had solar panels installed in 2025. Our solar panels are soaking up the sun and turning it into electricity for the building. Curious how much? Check out the real‑time numbers at the link below.

Electrical Terms
“Current” kW (kilowatt-hours) is the amount of power generated right now. “Energy Today” is the total amount of kWh, kilowatt-hours, generated today (starting when it is daylight to current time). “Energy this Month” is the total amount of power generated starting day 1 of the current month and could be in KiloWatt-hours, kWh, or MegaWatt-hours, MWh. One megawatt hour, MWh, is 1000 kWh. “Lifetime Energy” is the of power generated and is currently displayed in MegaWatt-hours MWh.
“Current” kW (kilowatts) (when the sun is up (shinning) our roof mounted solar cell convert the energy from sunshine into electricity and their unit of power is normally expressed as KILOWATT. One kilowatt hour (kWh) is the power necessary to light to full strength ten (old style not LED) 100-watt light bulbs for one hour. Hour is the standard length of time that electricity is measured by.
Energy today is the total amount of electricity produced while the sun is shining on the church roof.
Energy this Month is the total amount of energy (electricity) being produced by the solar cells on the church roof and expressed as watts, KiloWatt-hours or MegaWatt- hours in one calendar month.
Lifetime Energy is the total amount of energy (electricity) recorded and produced since the system was connected to the power company’s lines (the grid).
- There are several terms used to define electricity used in the USA. There is the type of power, AC and DC. AC stands for alternating current which is what we have mostly in any type of building in the USA. This was invented by a gentleman whose last name was Tesla. The other type is DC like that used to start cars, trucks and many other types of vehicles. Another place they are use a lot is cell phones and flashlights. This type of power was invented by Edison.
- Volts is a term for the SI unit of electromotive force, defined as the potential difference between two points on a conducting wire carrying a current of one ampere when the power dissipated between the two points is one watt, and equivalent to a difference in potential that would carry one ampere of current against one ohm resistance. Holy Nativity and our homes use three voltage 240, 208 and 120.
- Ampere the SI base unit of electrical current. Amp for a shortened version.
- Watt is the SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the rate of consumption of energy in an electric circuit where the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere.
Since watt is the standard for power more power adds a prefix to watt. Kilo multiplies the watt by 1000 times for the term kilowatt. Adding Mega to watt multiplies the watt to 1,000,000 times for the term megawatt. The next term higher is giga which is 1,000,000,000 or one billion times larger. Its term is gigawatt.
Our church has an electrical system that receives electricity and now can send back power to the Electric Company in the following form, 3-phase 208/120 volt. Your house in this area would receive electricity in the following form, single phase (1ph) 240/120 volt. Three phase means that there are three power lines coming into the church building. They are normally color coded black, red and white with the ground wire being bare or green. Your household system is single phase which means there are two wires bring power into you home and they are color coded black and white with the ground wire being bare or green.
